Scientific / Creative Process
My scientific and creative process consisted of lots of observing, attention to detail, and time. Scientifically when dissecting the fetal pig organs to create art we had to really observe the shapes, value, lines, to help us for the creativity process. So observation was important for both processes. Attention to detail applies to the observation part, but when doing the dissection and having to follow the instruction we had to make sure we were really paying attention to make sure we were making the right cuts, that goes for the creativity process as well. The little details included in the art is really important in making good art. Another similarity I found in both is time. The more patience you have is crucial in making a good dissection and in creating high quality art.
When doing my anatomically correct drawing I had the actual organs laying out in front of me to really visualize what I was trying to draw. When the organs weren't available I had a very useful tip from my peer to turn the image black and white to really capture the value and form.
What did you learn about the scientific process through the creativity process?
Through the scientific process I learned that creativity process has many similarities and differences within each other. I listed some of the similarities above but, some of the differences include the imagination portion. When doing your art you have all the freedom to create the work that your want and its all up to your imagination where as the scientific process is more strict. Following more specific set of instruction, and following different set of rules.
What challenges did you encounter in creating your best work? How did you overcome these?
A big challenge I encounter in creating my best work was being afraid of change. Especially for my first draft I spent so much time in the little detail and shape which I considered to be really great drafts but, I realized from my critique that I didn't add enough form or value. I struggled a lot in making changes to my first draft because I was scared to mess up. The idea of adding form and value meant going darker with my pencils and I just couldn't bring myself to. So I had my table mate Ivanna take my pencil and just begin the process of going dark so that I was forced to finish it myself.
What are you most proud of in creating your best work?
I am really proud that I was able to see my evolution as an artist grow and that all the work I worked so hard on was so worth all the time and effort I put into it. Being able to display it at exhibition with the zines all put together was such a good feeling knowing our work was being recognized. Seeing the final product it that much more worth the long hours spent into creating these pieces of art.
