Q: Which side would Junior be on in the "Adoptive V. Baby Girl" case? Provide evidence for this from the book and podcast.
I think that Junior would take the side of the Adoptive Couple and heres why, Junior is a smart kid. Thats why he transfers to Reardan. On page 84 he says "first of all, I was smarter than most of those white kids.. and not just smart for an indian okay? I was smart period." So if he was looking at this situation he would examine the evidence carefully and would probably say something like "why did the biological father waive his rights if he claims he wanted to be there from the start?"
My other reason is because I think that Junior is low-key fond of the white life. In his first day of school he compared himself to a white boy and was beating himself up. "I knew it: all of those kids knew it. Indians don't deserve sh**." page 56 Junior hates the fact that he's poor. On his first day of school at his high school in the reserve he threw his textbook and his teacher because he was angry. Angry because he had seem his moms name and it reminded him of how they are. Another example is Penelope. In the halloween chapter where he dresses up as the same costume and Penelope. He tries to impress her saying that he too will be collecting money instead of candy. "I wanted her to admire my commitment, too. So I lied" Page 78.
If you think about it baby Veronica and Junior are slightly similar. Baby Veronica has lived in two world just like Junior. She's lived with her adoptive parents and a little over a year with her biological dad. Junior is constantly living in both worlds. At school were he's surrounded with a whole different environment and at home where he grew up.
So I think Junior would lean more on the Capibiancos side because he knows that she may have a better life. He would put himself in her shoes.
